2,000 PAMPANGA FAMILIES TO BENEFIT FROM RELIEF DONATIONS
QUEZON CITY — Former President and Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo joined humanitarian and community leaders on Thursday, September 10, in efforts to strengthen relief assistance for families affected by recent flooding in Pampanga.
Arroyo was the featured speaker at the World Humanitarian Day Friendship Luncheon organized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also participated in the ceremonial signing of a Deed of Donation that will benefit approximately 2,000 families affected by the floods in Pampanga.
Arroyo signed the Deed of Donation with Anthony John Balledos, country manager of Latter-day Saints Charities–Southeast Asia, Inc. The signing was witnessed by Elder Steven Shumway, counselor in the Philippines Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Elizabeth Carlos-Timbol, president of the Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
Arroyo expressed appreciation to the Church and its humanitarian arm for extending assistance to Pampanga families during a critical time of need. She also recognized the Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce for bringing together members of the business and civic communities in support of humanitarian initiatives.
The humanitarian effort comes as communities across Pampanga continue to recover from heavy monsoon rains and flooding that have affected homes, livelihoods and the daily lives of thousands of families.
In her message, Arroyo emphasized the importance of cooperation among government agencies, humanitarian organizations, the business sector, faith-based institutions and civil society in responding to disasters and helping affected communities recover.
The World Humanitarian Day Friendship Luncheon brought together government officials, humanitarian and development partners, faith-based organizations, civil society leaders and business representatives committed to strengthening partnerships for humanitarian service.
The participation of the Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce reflects the private sector’s role in supporting humanitarian initiatives and connecting resources, organizations and communities toward a common purpose.
The ceremonial signing marked a shared commitment among the partners to assist families affected by the Pampanga floods and provide support as communities begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.
The initiative also reflects the humanitarian mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to follow the example of Jesus Christ by caring for people in need and helping individuals, families and communities become more resilient.
Through its humanitarian efforts, the Church works with government agencies, civic organizations, businesses and other partners to respond to urgent needs and provide assistance where it can make a meaningful difference.
For Pampanga, the initiative demonstrates how government, faith-based organizations and the private sector can work together to bring assistance closer to families affected by disasters.
